Just hours after the world learned about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal engagement, the couple sat down for their first official interview as a newly-engaged pair on Monday, November 27. In this candid chat, Harry, 33, and Meghan, 36, opened up about Meghan’s dazzling engagement ring, the bittersweet absence of Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, and Meghan’s unforgettable first meeting with Queen Elizabeth.

Harry's Proposal: A Cozy Night at Home

Harry shared the intimate details of his proposal, painting a picture of a simple, heartfelt moment. “It happened a few weeks ago, earlier this month, at our cottage in Kensington Palace. It was just a standard night for us. We were trying to roast a chicken, but things didn’t quite go as planned,” Harry recalled with a laugh. “Meghan didn’t even let me finish. She said, ‘Can I say yes? Can I say yes?’ There were hugs, and I had the ring on my finger, asking, ‘Can I give you the ring?’ She replied, ‘Oh yes, the ring!’ It was a really special moment, just the two of us, and I think I managed to surprise her.”

Meghan chimed in, saying, “Yes, it was such a cozy night. I could barely let you finish proposing. It was perfect.”

The Engagement Ring: A Personal Touch

Harry went on to reveal more about the stunning engagement ring he designed for Meghan. “The ring is obviously yellow gold because that’s her favorite. The main stone itself I sourced from Botswana,” Harry explained as Meghan proudly showed off her beautiful new piece to BBC interviewer Mishal Husain. “The little diamonds on either side are from my mother’s jewelry collection to make sure that she’s with us on this incredible journey together,” the prince continued. Meghan added, “It’s absolutely beautiful, and he designed it himself. It’s incredible.”

When asked why he chose to include two of Diana’s diamonds in the ring, Harry shared, “It’s so important to me to know that she’s a part of this with us. It’s days like these when I really miss having her around and miss being able to share the happy news. But with the ring and everything else going on, I’m sure she’s jumping up and down somewhere. She’s with us,” Meghan added warmly.

Meghan's Meeting with the Queen: A Memorable Experience

Meghan also spoke about her first meeting with Queen Elizabeth, describing it as an incredible experience. “It’s amazing to meet her through Harry’s lens—not just with his honor and respect for her as the monarch, but the love that he has for her as his grandmother. All those layers have been so important for me, so that when I met her, I had such a deep understanding and, of course, incredible respect for having that time with her. She’s an incredible woman,” Meghan said.

“The corgis took her straight away,” Harry joked, to which Meghan replied, “They were just laying on my feet during tea. It was very sweet!”
