Here’s a heartwarming story you won’t want to miss. In an exclusive new interview with Closer Weekly, renowned royal historian Phil Dampier shared some touching insights about what Princess Diana would think of her son Prince Harry's engagement to actress Meghan Markle. According to Dampier, Diana would have been thrilled with the match. "I’m absolutely certain Diana would be over the moon about Harry marrying Meghan," he said. "She would be incredibly happy that Harry has chosen love as the foundation of his marriage. Diana always encouraged her children to follow their hearts, and that's exactly what Harry has done," Dampier explained with a warm smile.

Dampier, who recently released his eighth book titled Diana – I’m Going to Be Me, went on to elaborate. "Not only would Diana be delighted by the love story between Harry and Meghan, but she would also be incredibly proud of Meghan's dedication to humanitarian causes. Meghan is someone who genuinely cares about making the world a better place, and many of the causes she champions are close to Diana’s heart. It's truly incredible—and, in a way, heartbreaking—that Meghan happens to be 36 years old, the same age Diana was when she tragically passed away," Dampier added, his voice tinged with emotion.

In a candid and heartfelt engagement interview with Meghan, Prince Harry, then 33 years old, shared his thoughts on what his late mother might think of his decision to marry Meghan. "Oh, they’d be inseparable, no question about it," Harry said, his voice filled with warmth. "I truly believe she would have been jumping up and down with excitement for me. But beyond that, I think Diana and Meghan would have been best friends—just the best of friends. It’s days like these when I deeply wish she were here to share in this happiness. But you know, with the ring and everything else that’s happening, I’m sure she’s celebrating somewhere," Harry continued, his eyes twinkling with hope. Meghan chimed in softly, "She’s with us."

    Harry's Thoughtful Proposal

Prince Harry proposed to Meghan in their cozy Nottingham Cottage home at Kensington Palace in November 2017. The engagement ring, which Harry designed himself, is a stunning piece of jewelry featuring a large diamond sourced from Botswana, a place close to Harry's heart, along with two smaller diamonds from Princess Diana's personal collection. Celebrity jeweler George Khalife, also known as "George the Jeweler," weighed in on the ring's value. "Based on my expertise, I’d estimate Meghan’s ring to be roughly a 2.5 to 3-carat cushion cut diamond," Khalife said. "The ring is valued at approximately $60,000, with the two side stones having belonged to Princess Diana and the main stone coming from Botswana. It’s a beautiful tribute to both Harry’s heritage and his love for Meghan," he added, clearly impressed by the thoughtful design.

    Ken Wharfe’s Perspective

In a past interview, Princess Diana’s former bodyguard, Ken Wharfe, revealed his thoughts on what Diana would have thought of Meghan and Prince William’s wife, Kate Middleton. "Diana was the kind of mother who would think, ‘If this is what my son wants, it’s not really for me to judge whether the person is right or wrong.’ She would have assumed her sons had made the right decision and, therefore, you can be sure of Diana’s love and support," Ken explained with a knowing smile. He went on to say, "Diana would have been impressed by both William and Harry standing firm in their choices of partners, refusing to let the royal family dictate their love lives. William and Kate are unlike any other royal couple, as they found each other naturally, meeting at university," Ken said, emphasizing the modern approach to royal romance.

Ken continued, "Harry, on the other hand, has taken a completely different path—falling in love with an American TV star. It's almost like a fairytale come to life. You couldn’t write a story this good!" He added that Diana would have seen the modernization of the royal family as a positive step forward. "She would have said, ‘Look, this is what my son wants, and it works for him, and he’s happy. That’s what I tried to achieve in my own life.’ Diana had a modern outlook, and for that reason, she would have fully supported their choices," Ken concluded.
