David’s career began long before NCIS. Back in 1964, he became a household name as the suave Soviet spy Illya Kuryakin on the hit series The Man from U.N.C.L.E.. At the time, he never imagined the show would catapult him to fame. “I was just happy to have a job that paid the bills,” he recalls. “It was a wonderful opportunity, and my role was small at first. But as the show went on, it evolved in ways I never expected.”

Fast forward to today, and David has been playing Dr. Ducky Mallard since 2003. It’s a role that showcases his depth as an actor and his ability to connect with audiences on a personal level. “I’ve been blessed to work with such talented people over the years,” he says. “And I’ve learned so much along the way.”

The Heart of It All: Family and Marriage

While David’s career is undoubtedly impressive, it’s his personal life that truly defines him. He’s been married to his wife, Katherine Carpenter, for an incredible 52 years. “Katherine and I are two halves of a whole,” he says with a warm smile. “We work beautifully together, and when challenges arise, we face them as a team. The secret to a successful marriage? Understanding what your partner needs and making sure they get it.”

It’s clear that David values his family just as much—if not more—than his career. And who can blame him? After all, it’s the people we love that make life meaningful.
