Hey there, TV fans! It's officially the era of revivals. From beloved classics like Gilmore Girls and Roseanne to more recent hits like Will & Grace, it seems like everyone’s favorite shows are making their way back to the screen. But when it comes to one of the greatest sitcoms of all time—Friends—a reboot just isn’t in the cards. And according to star Matt LeBlanc, it’s not likely to happen anytime soon. Let’s dive into why.

When asked about the possibility of a Friends reboot, Matt LeBlanc recently opened up to TV WEEK, saying, “I don’t think that will happen.” He went on to explain that he’s had conversations with everyone involved in the decision-making process and has also heard the same rumors floating around that we’ve all been hearing. But the reality is, there hasn’t been any official talk about bringing the show back.

As the host of Top Gear, the 50-year-old actor shared his thoughts on why revisiting Friends might not be the best idea. “I think Friends was about a specific time in life—right after school ends and before you settle down and start a family,” Matt explained. “That’s when your friends truly feel like family, and that’s what the show was all about—a snapshot of that ten-year period in people’s lives.”

LeBlanc emphasized that the essence of the show was tied to that unique phase of life. “To go back and revisit those characters now, well, A) I’m not sure what the story would even be, and B) both the cast and the characters have moved on from that time in their lives. It just wouldn’t feel the same,” he added.

Fun fact: Apparently, the world is still scratching its head over whether David Schwimmer played Russ on Friends. Spoiler alert: He didn’t!

    Would a Revival Even Work?

Matt isn’t convinced that a revival would resonate the same way with audiences. “The characters have grown, the actors have grown, and life has moved on,” he said. “I think it’s like when people say the book is always better than the movie. Sometimes, it’s best to leave things as they are.”

He continued, “I’d assume the characters are still in touch, but it’s not the same dynamic. The magic of Friends was rooted in that specific moment in time, and trying to recreate that might just feel forced.”
