After more than a decade of marriage, comedian Bill Hader and filmmaker Maggie Carey have made the tough decision to divorce. On November 17, Bill's rep confirmed the news to People. It turns out the couple has been separated since July, and they're now working through the legal process of their split. Bill, 39, and Maggie, 42, married back in 2006 and built a beautiful family together with three daughters—Hannah, 8, Harper, 5, and Hayley, 3. This announcement might come as a surprise, but life has its twists and turns, and it’s clear they’re handling it with grace.
From LA to NYC and Back Again
Bill and Maggie's love story began in Los Angeles, where they were introduced by a mutual friend. As their relationship grew, they decided to move to New York City so Bill could take on his iconic role on Saturday Night Live. After Bill wrapped up his time on SNL in 2013, the family packed up and headed back to the West Coast. In a previous interview with USA Today, Bill opened up about the reasons behind the move. He explained, “The whole reason we’re moving to California is that we’re tired of being apart all the time. Doing SNL was a massive commitment. You’d have weeks off and you’d have to go to LA. It’s all about rolling with the punches.”

Working Together on the Big Screen
Throughout their marriage, Bill and Maggie not only shared a life together but also worked side by side on creative projects. One of their collaborations was the 2013 romantic comedy The To Do List. Maggie wrote and directed the film, which starred Bill alongside Aubrey Plaza from Parks and Recreation. In an interview with USA Today, Maggie joked about her husband’s involvement, saying, “He has to be in everything I do.” Bill sweetly responded, “I’ll be in all your movies.”
When it came to parenting, Bill had some funny yet wise advice. In a chat with People, he shared, “Whatever your wife asks, just say yes. Your life will be so much easier. If your wife asks you to drive to LAX at 2 a.m. to pick up a piece of luggage, just do it!” While their decision to part ways is undoubtedly tough, it's clear that their bond was built on love, laughter, and mutual respect. We’re genuinely saddened by their split but wish them nothing but the best as they navigate this new chapter.
